Certification systems for classroom buildings

Federal Assessment System for Sustainable Building (BNB)

In order to support the implementation of sustainable classroom buildings at the municipal and state level, the Federal Ministry of Building was commissioned in 2013 to adapt the existing Federal Sustainable Building Rating System for office buildings to the special features of classroom buildings. It is applicable to newly constructed and completely modernised educational buildings of all use categories:

  • general education schools
  • vocational schools
  • research and teaching facilities
  • Further education institutions
  • day-care centres for children (analogously)
